Recitals and Horses!

We spent six hours at the farm yesterday watching Lynette ride in three classes. She took fourth place, third place, and second place in them! She had a great time, and we all got sun-burned, even though we had sunscreen on and tried to stay in the shade as much as possible! She said her favorite event was the last one (pictured above) because the jumps were higher. She was also in the arena by herself, so she wasn't distracted by other horses and riders.

After the horse show, we had friends and the elders over for dinner. We were trying out our new "Volcano" stove and dutch oven. It worked great! Well worth the money.

Saturday, we spent the whole day (pretty much) at ballet recitals. First, Rachel had hers. Watching 3-5 year olds dance is always entertaining! I'm thinking next year, Rachel will be trying something else. We're spending a lot of money to watch her stand on stage watching what everyone else is doing!
Elaine's recital was in the evening. She had three dances: one with the ballet company, and two with her classes. I think she got cheated with her costumes this year. None of them were especially pretty, but at least two of them were studio costumes, so we didn't have to pay for them! She did beautifully, of course. You can tell she loves to dance, even though performing makes her nervous. This is not the best picture, but it's hard to get a good photo during performance, and this is the only close-up that we got. She also wouldn't stay to have any photos taken after her performance because she was anxious to get to the tri-stake dance!

Sam's Weekend

Well, I had a good Memorial Day Weekend, even though I had to take a final and do homework online over it. I spent Friday afternoon to Sunday Afternoon with Flint and Annette. On Friday we saw the Star Trek movie, and I thought it was actually good. I thought the way they made an "alternate universe" so that they could make whatever story they wanted to without disrupting the canon was classic Star Trek. On Friday we went out on the boat on Utah Lake. We did some fishing and just zipped around. I did catch a couple of fish, but you'll have to ask Flint for the picture. We had a picnic after that with most of Flint's kids and their families.

Sunday afternoon, my Roholt grandparents picked me up, and I spent most of Memorial Day with them. I finished the last of my homework and started on my programming project, and mostly we just enjoyed each other's company. We tried to go out to a frisbee golf course, but we couldn't find it in the end. Now I'm back in my room, working some more on my program.

Mariana's Choir Concert Solo

We went to Mariana's choir concert tonight. She had another short solo part. I took a video, but it was too big to post here. She did a great job.

Cutest Teddy Bear Ever

This coming Saturday is Rachel and Elaine's recital, but Tuesday, Rachel got to do her dance at a local retirement center. It was a bit challenging for the girls because the space they had in which to dance was about a third of what they normally dance in and they were tap-dancing on carpet. Still, the seniors seemed to enjoy it!
I know it looks like they are standing still, but really, they were dancing!

From the Y

Well, I figured I'd say hi to everyone, since I've been kind of quiet recently. I'm settled in here at the Y, and doing well in my classes (Physics 121, Computer Science 236, and Religion 211). I'm also part of a board gaming group here on campus, so I'm not spending ALL of my time on homework. I'm currently looking for a job, and I've recently signed up as a volunteer tutor.

Quick trip to Lake Powell

Creed and I spent a few days at Lake Powell last week. It was in the 90s and the water was about 67--warmer than Bear Lake in August. We went with some friends and mostly fished. We'd find a nice camping spot and just sleep on the boat.

We got home in time to celebrate Mother's Day with Anette and all of our children and grandchildren.

Spring at the Dalley's

Some of the things we have been doing this spring: Elaine's 14th birthday. Can you believe it? Now she goes to dances and such!

Lynette was in an abridged performance of As You Like It. She played Jacques, and had a great time. She can't wait for the group to get started on their next play which will be Beauty and the Beast. Elaine wants me to make sure you know she helped backstage with the music!

And, one homeschool park day we took kites along and flew them! It was perfect weather for it. Rachel was thrilled. I wish I could've gotten a good picture of her face. She was having so much fun.

Elaine just got back from a homeschool teen conference, so I am sure I will be sending pictures of that soon.

And next weekend is Lynette's horse show and the week following is Rachel and Elaine's ballet recital.
James is taking exams this week and then on the 18th starts his "May term." He'll finish that on June 4th and be off for a month until July semester starts.
We are a bit busy around here!

Scary geese

I am raising three geese this year. I am hoping they will be big enough to help discourage the raccoons and foxes from killing the chickens. In the meantime, they are growing fast. Tagg tolerates them. Harvey loves them. And Katie is scared to death of them. We are not sure why, because they don't do anything aggressive.
