The Dalley update

Let's see, while all of you have been traveling all over and having fun, we've been doing the same old stuff!
James was ordained an elder on Sunday. Hard to believe. Now he's just got to find a better job so he can earn more money! Right now he's working at Taco Bell clear across town, and only part time.

Elaine is struggling to keep up in school and dance. She performed this past weekend at a fancy hotel in downtown Dallas. She had fun, but it left her scrambling to finish homework. Right now there is a lot of drama with the lead dancer in the PMB production, so the whole company is wondering what will happen. She often stays up late at night to get everything done. Then she gets up very early so she can go to seminary. At least the church is only a few minutes away.

Rachel is taking gymnastics and loving every minute of it. Her reading is coming along nicely, though she still mixes up some letters, like 't' and 'n'. Don't ask me how those two are related, but she consistently mixes them up!

Lynette is working hard on her schoolwork and still taking riding lessons once a week.

I guess the next thing here will be James' Eagle Court of Honor. He finally had his Board of Review last Wednesday. He wants to do the Court of Honor before Thanksgiving. We'll see.

FYI, Denisa broke her ankle, so she is hobbling around, going crazy in her house!

Follow up to Flint message

We went to Cody to visit Jake & Lindsey over the conference week end. We watched conference and had a good visit. Flint posted some pictures he took but I think I got the most spectacular picture right out their back window. This is "Heart Mountain".
We had a great visit and got better acquainted with the children. They are the greatest Great-Grandchildren as are all of ours. Katie was busy at the river catching "electric eelfish" (sticks that were along the river edge). We had a nice walk by the river before the Sunday morning session. The colors were beautiful through the park and especially coming through Teton National Park on our way to Star Valley. We stopped and visited Ruth's Uncle Wilton in Osmund. He isn't doing that great and is very lonely since wife Norna passed away.

Back from Wyoming

Anette and I got back Sunday night from our trip to Wyoming. We had a great time visiting our grandchildren and seeing the beautiful scenery.

Here is a funny story. We went down by the river near Jake’s house with the kids. While we were there we heard some chukars calling on the other side. So Jake calls a friend to come wade across the river with him to hunt those birds (because I told him there was no way I was wading across with him.

So we went back to his house to pick up his dogs and shotgun and then drove back to the river. Jake and Chase started across holding their guns above their heads so they wouldn’t get wet. I should mention that they chose not to wear waders. When the water reached Jake’s armpits, he decided they needed to find a shallower spot. Of course the dogs had no problems crossing, so they were over and hunting for 15 minutes before Jake and Chase found a better spot.

The water in this river is mountain runoff, so it is very cold. By the time they finally got over, they were like walking icicles. They finally met back up with the dogs and went to find the birds. But by the time they got there, the birds were gone. So they made another cold, wet hike back across and then we went home so they could get ready so we could go elk hunting.

The elk hunt was even less successful than the chukar hunt. We were going to take horses, but it looked like it would snow so we ended up mostly driving. We didn’t see any animals except in town. There are deer and antelope everywhere in Cody. The road climbed almost to the top of the mountain and the views were spectacular.

We spent quite a bit of time messing around with horses while we were at Jake's house. Jake has a second horse he is using while the owner is away at college. It's name is Gwappie. He is a big gelding--even bigger than Bo. I rode him and we got along quite well. Jake is also breaking a young colt and the owner is giving him a young mare in return. So we watched while he worked with that horse one evening.

We figure this will likely be our last trip that direction until spring. We had beautiful weather and a wonderful time.

Viva Las Vegas

We just got back from spending the weekend with Brandon and Jenine at their new house in Las Vegas. Monday will mark the second week since they moved in. Given their short time there, they had things pretty well sorted out.

We were glad that Laila still remembered Grandpa and Grandma when we got there. She was still cute, too. We spent time playing with her and just being entertained by her sweetness.

We spent most of Saturday digging sprinkler trenches. Las Vegas dirt is much like concrete, in case anyone was wondering. A lot of work with a pick is necessary before one can shovel any dirt. We got most of the lines dug for the back yard. Thankfully yards there tend to be small. It was still plenty of work.

This week we head the other direction to visit Jake, Linday, Katelynn and Tagg in Wyoming. We are looking forward to seeing how much those two children have grown.
