Update

27 December 2009 We spent Christmas with Flint’s family in Highland. I’ve never seen kids get so many toys. I remember when I was little that RaeOla and I would get one toy each and a few clothes along with a orange in our stocking. Flint stated it about right when he said that Santa's sleigh tipped over at their house and spilled all the toys. We had a very enjoyable time and thank God for the fine children, grandchildren and great-grand children we have been given. Sam came home with us for a few days

I don't know how many of you may remember David Swapp but I will always remember him. After getting home from Flints we were watching the ten o’clock news and they had a picture of David Swapp, from the Newark Ward, on the news. He was being tried for smothering his own 3 month old baby. Seeing his pictured brought back so many memories to me. After I was released from the Stake presidency my first calling was to sit with David in Primary and try to control him so that he didn’t interrupt the primary. The next year I taught the Blazer B Scouts and David was then an 11 year old Scout. He was a constant headache. He couldn’t or wouldn’t learn the simplest scouting skills and was always getting lost or in some kind of trouble. I just wonder if there was something more that I could have done to help him. I know that his parents must be devastated by he actions

I think the Swapps moved into the ward after I left. I remember the name but didn't really get to know them. I too am glad we have such good children. They are not perfect, but their problems are tiny compared to what some families deal with.
