Our family had a unique adventure the past couple of days when Creed filled his cow moose tag. We made several trips to his hunting area over the past couple of weeks and had only seen bulls. We'd also heard a lot of discouraging reports from other hunters who said the cows all seemed to have disappeared.
Sunday evening after church Creed, Anette and I decided to take a drive to see the fall colors. Creed threw the rifle in just in case, but we weren't expecting to see anything. He was even wearing shorts and tennis shoes. As luck goes, right before dark we were just starting to head home when we spotted a moose on a hillside.
By the time we got turned the right direction the moose had gone over a hill and Creed had to run a couple hundred yards to get to a spot where he could shoot. But he made the most of his chance. It was getting dark so we had to leave her until the next morning.
Monday we spent essentially the entire day getting her skinned, quartered and hauled out. The area does not allow four-wheelers or horses, so we hauled the quarters out in a wheelbarrow.
We took almost 500 pounds of meat the the processor and Creed is getting the hide made into leather.
