Our hectic summer continues

I just got back from a trip to Lake Powell with a friend, Jim Troupis, and his brother who drove down from Boise. Anette and Jim’s wife, Karen, took their own trip to the Shakespeare Theater in Cedar City. We have known Jim and Karen since we lived in Illinois almost 30 years ago.

We spent three days at Powell (Aug. 8-10) and actually got rained on every day. We managed to catch a few fish when the weather cooperated, but it wasn’t as good as usual. Fortunately neither Jim nor his brother had ever been there before so we also spent time cruising the lake and exploring some of the canyons.

We took my new boat with us. Actually it is a used boat, but new to us. I have broken the family tradition of self-propelled water transport. We needed something that could hold plenty of people and be safe on the big lakes. We drove down and picked it up a couple of weeks ago from a boat mechanic/builder in Grand Junction, Colorado. Saturday should be the maiden voyage for the kids and grandkids on Utah Lake.

In between buying the boat and the trip we managed to squeeze in Jake’s ultra marathon and Creed’s patriarchal blessing on the same weekend. The result for Creed was much better than for Jake. He got stung by a bee after 35 miles which pretty much ended his race since he is allergic to bee stings. He had already reached the highest point of the race and the last 29 miles was pretty much downhill. We also celebrated Creed’s 18th birthday the same week.

Anette is already back at school and it starts for the children on Monday. What ever happened to starting after Labor Day?

The archery season for deer start Saturday and Jake will be up on the tip top of Mt. Timpanogos looking for a big one. I can't stand the archery hunt because it is too dang hot! We did not draw many good tags this year so I will be doing more fall fishing than hunting.

Any more word on potential reunion times and locations? Anette and I are pretty flexible now that all the kids are grown.
